Landrum, South Carolina

Welcome to the Cliffs at Glassy- one of the most picturesque places in South Carolina!

Overlook of the Blue Ridge Mountains

I swear, my breath was taken away at every turn. High atop a mountain, you overlook sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Pickens County, and hints of downtown Greenville. It really puts into perspective how our little worlds are entwined and interconnected with one another.

That's Ashton.

This was our first time here. What started off as innocent pinning and gawking at random feeds on Flickr turned into quite a special photo journey.

We arrived 5 minutes before sunset and were literally running to the top of this stone mountain.

So many compositions were running through my head. I researched pictures on Flikr so I had a rough idea of what I was looking for.

All that planning, however, went out the window when we got there. The sun was setting rapidly. At this point, I was observing at how the light was laying along the mountain-tops and trying to figure out what to capture.

This is Glassy Chapel. It sits right on the other side of the stone hill on a cliff. The doors were locked, but it seems like a gorgeous place to hold a ceremony. My goal is to come back and photograph the inside.

Gates to the chapel.

This is right behind the chapel. You can barely make out the houses and lights in the distance. I liked how the stones contrast with hilly plains in the background. It give kind of a reference to how high we actually were.

My favorite picture. I thought the zig-zagging of the fence made an interesting leading-line to the beautiful colors in the sky. I like how the rocks and bare trees add texture and feeling to the composition.

In the end, Ashton and I decided to stop, sit, and enjoy the fleeting moments of sunlight. This is what makes photography calming and oh so rewarding.

Thank you for reading!
